History - 2001

2001 once again saw The Cavaliers competing internationally. They were once again selected to compete in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands. The band's 2001 show was well received by the audience and the judges resulting in a Silver Medal award. Photographs of their performances in the WMC Stadium and in Kerkrade can be viewed here

Only a week after their performance in Holland, The Cavaliers took part in the European Marching & Showband Championships in England. Spurred on by their previous achievements, the band played their hearts out and were awarded a Gold Medal as European Contest Champions.

Due to difficulties experienced by contest organisers, The Cavaliers were only able to take part in 5 BYBA contests during the marching season. As in previous year's they were selected to appear at BYBA's National Championships at the National Indoor Arena.

The band's annual Concert and Presentation Evening on December 1st marked the "retirement" of founding Bandmaster John Jones and his wife Sonia from their roles on the Cavalier Staff team. Their contribution to the success was marked by much enjoyment as well as speeches from BYBA Council members. The incoming Bandmaster, Lee Hendle, has a great tradition of entertainment to follow with a youth marching showband that regularly "plays with pride".
