History - 1997

Demonstrating the range of their musicianship, for their 1997 show The Cavaliers featured a selection of popular Classical music. Their abilities earned them much recognition at events they appeared at in the U.K. including Basingstoke's Festival of Sport at which the band hosted a visting fife and drum band from their twin town of Euskirchen in Germany.

The major event of 1997 was The Cavaliers' performance at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands. Spectators and bandmembers were overwhelmed by the marvellous atmosphere in the Rotastadium and the reception they received. Their performance justly gained them the award of a Silver Medal, scoring the third highest marks of the British bands competing at the 13th WMC.

As well as BYBA competitions, The Cavaliers took part in a BYBA Band Spectacular at Alton Towers theme park, marched in the Lord Mayor's Show and were again asked to perform at one of the London Parade's "Music for London" concerts.
