History - 1996

The Cavaliers began a busy 1996 on New Year's Day by taking part in the 10th annual London Parade and it's attempt of achieving the record for the "World's Largest Marching Band" - an event they had helped publicise on television the previous December in the "Record Breakers" programme on BBC-1.

In May, the band achieved its first BYBA Premier Division win at the Crawley Youth Marching Band Championships - overall Premier Class winners as well as receiving the trophies for Dress & Turnout, Best Field Commander, Colour Guard, Best Wind Section, and joint Drill & Deportment winners.

The success of their 1996 show - based on the hit musical "Phantom of the Opera" - secured the band a place at BYBA's National Finals later in the year. At that event The Cavaliers delighted their supporters by bringing home two awards - Best Turnout, and the award that speaks volumes for their accomplishments - Most Entertaining Band!

To complete the year, the band was asked to participate in one of the "Music for London" Concerts that were run as a prelude to the 1997 London Parade.
